PLANT CITY – The Friends of the Bruton Memorial Library are planning one of their most generous offers yet to sell surplus books.
The group will offer shoppers the opportunity to pick up a bag full of books for $1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Shoppers will be given a bag and can browse through the selections. They pay $1 per bag, regardless how many books they can stuff inside it, Library Director Anne Haywood said.
The Bag of Books for a Buck Sale will be held in the Moody Community Room in the library, 302 W. McLendon St.
The Friends hold periodic book sales, but the group decided on a bargain deal because of a large volume of recent book and cassette donations.
“We really need to reduce our stock and we want to share it with other people,” Haywood said.
The titles include a broad spectrum of interests.
Members of the Friends group will have a preview sale from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Anyone interested in joining the group can sign up at the sale.
Bruton Memorial and the Friends of the Library receive thousands of book donations each year. Many of the books are added to the shelves, but the surplus goes go to the Friends Bookstore, located inside the library, or are sold at periodic book sales.
Money raised by the Friends group pays for such library enhancements as special programs for children in the summer and the aquarium in the children’s section.
