Friday chicken dinner to raise money to improve Christmas parade
PLANT CITY - The calendar may say May, but the committee that stages the annual Plant City Christmas Parade is already planning for the holidays. The committee will hold a barbecue chicken meal Friday to raise money to benefit the Dec. 6 parade. The $10 per plate meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Sweetbay Supermarket, 205 W. Alexander St. The meals will include chicken, corn, beans, roll and soda. The meals will be available for takeout but there will be some tables and seating set up in the parking lot. The money will be used for such items as paying travel expenses for out of town marching bands or a better float for Santa Claus, said Henry Falcon, Sweetbay manager and a member of the parade committee.“We are trying to make the Christmas parade better than ever. We feel Plant City is a special place and we want the parade to be something that they can be proud of,” Falcon said. Falcon hopes to raise at least $2,000 with Friday’s meal. Other fundraisers to benefit the parade are planned, including possibly one in July. For information, call Falcon at (813) 754-9338.
