Four dead in high-speed Plant City crash

Four people are dead after a high-speed overnight crash in Plant City.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 31-year-old Rolando Silva, of Plant City, was driving a 2006 BMW at a high rate of speed at 12:13 a.m. Friday on State Road 60 when he lost control of the car.

The highway patrol said Silva crossed the center grass median east of Clarence Gordon Jr. Road. His car collided with speed limit sign in the media, then into the westbound lanes and head-on into a 1999 Cadillac driven by 26-year-old Joseph Allie Vizcarrondo, of Valrico.

Both drivers were killed, as were two passengers in the Cadillac, 19-year-old Lauren Elizabeth Phillips of Valrico, and Jenna Dawn Kelly, of Sun City Center.

None of those involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, the highway patrol said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, troopers said.

Court records show Silva has had several previous arrests in Hillsborough County — most recently on March 9 — on charges ranging from aggravated battery, driving with a suspended license, drug possession and violation of probation.
