Fireworks and games part of Plant City’s July 4th festivities

PLANT CITY – Plans are in high gear for the annual July 4 celebration at Plant City Stadium.

Fireworks will cap an evening of games, music and food at the stadium, 1810 E. Park Road. The fun is from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

It’s the largest event of the year staged by the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department, Special Events Coordinator Tim Hanlon said.

Parking is $5 and there’s no admission charge.

The city will spend $30,000 to stage the celebration, including $20,000 for fireworks, Hanlon said. Sponsors include the Florida Strawberry Festival and Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce who will pay for the festivities, he said.

Florida Strawberry Festival General Manager Paul Davis said his organization is pleased to help pay for the celebration.

“It’s kind of our way of saying thank you to the community,” Davis said. “We’re excited to be part of the celebration.”

The city provides the staffing for the event, including police and firefighters.

The stadium parking lot gates open at 5:45 p.m.

Weather permitting, the on-field activities, all free, will include inflatables, face painting, balloon art, corn hole bean bag toss and a children’s craft center. New this year will be a rock-climbing wall and bungee jumping on a trampoline.

Food will be sold at stadium concession stands and vendors on the perimeter of the field.

The 20-minute fireworks show starts at 9:15 p.m.

Parking is available only in the stadium parking lot, and entry is from East Park Road only. No parking will be allowed near the complex along Park Road, Jim Johnson Road and Gordon Food Service Drive. Following the fireworks, event traffic will flow one-way away from the complex as vehicles exit the parking lots onto Park Road and Gordon Food Service Drive.

No coolers or any glass or open containers of any beverages will allowed into the stadium. No alcohol is allowed on the property.
