PLANT CITY – The city will add lanes on Timberlane Drive to curb wait times for motorists exiting from the west side of Walden Lake.
The city plans to construct a left turn lane and right turn lane om eastbound Timberlane Drive at Alexander Street. The extra lanes will help clear congestion at the intersection.
The city has budgeted $200,000 for the work, but City Manager David Sollenberger doubts it will cost that much. He didn’t have a precise timetable but said he expects the project to wrap up by early 2015.
The city will work with the homeowners association as it develops plans for the project, he added.
Sollenberger said traffic tends to stack up on Timberlane, particularly in the morning as motorists leaving Walden Lake turn onto Alexander Street. With the extra lanes, more motorists will be able to make it to Alexander with each green light, he said.
Walden Lake is the city’s largest subdivision with more than 2,000 homes.
