Concert to help gospel quartet's tour
A gospel group is holding a concert from 6 to 7 p.m. July 15 to raise money for its first tour. The Centurions Southern Gospel Quartet's performance will be at East Thonotosassa Baptist Church, 12375 Knights-Griffin Road. There's no admission but an offering will be received. The concert will help finance the quartet's first tour, said Pete McNabb, who founded the Centurions about three years ago. The week-long tour starts July 19 and will include stops in Georgia and Wisconsin, said McNabb, who sings bass. Other group members include Tim Johnson, lead, Charley Parke, baritone, and Bennie Parker, tenor.McNabb said that during the 1960s and 1970s, he toured with a quartet that traveled all over the country. The time is right for the Centurions to take their music on the road, the 85-year-old McNabb said. Refreshments will be served after the July 15 concert at the church, at the corner of McIntosh and Knights-Griffin roads. For information call (813) 752-1672.
