Club players give Raiders volleyball a boost
PLANT CITY - With seven seniors and a strong set of players with club experience, Plant City is setting up for a promising volleyball campaign. The Raiders started their regular season Tuesday night against Lennard and are next in action Tuesday at defending state semifinalist Newsome. Third-year head coach Kerri-Ann Grosso can put an entire lineup of club players on the court at one time, a luxury the Raiders have never enjoyed. "We have some girls who really worked extra hard this summer playing club ball," Grosso said.Amy Booher, Stephanie Taylor, Courtney Hunt and Savannah Molinowski saw their games improve tremendously, Grosso said. Seniors Alix Hooker and Analise Coffee are the big hitters and have been for several years. They will be set up by both Booher and Taylor; the Raiders are one of the few teams that feature two equally adept setters. Booher and Taylor are flourishing. "They work together very well, and on top of that they're very easy for me to work with," Grosso said. Taylor is the taller of the two and will stay in the lineup a little longer. Plant City is looking to nudge into the playoff mix in District 5A-8, where Newsome and Armwood made the postseason last year. Durant, as always, will also be a contender.
