More than 50 local businesses had the opportunity to reach out to potential customers at the 11th annual Plant City Community Expo.
About 500 people visited the expo, which showcased the merchants in the area. The sponsor, the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce, hopes the event encourages shoppers to stay close to home.
Chamber President Marion Smith said she was pleased with the expo although a rainstorm hurt attendance.
“All in all it was a success,” she said.
The businesses set up booths at the expo building on the Florida Strawberry Festival grounds. Joanne Casper, who was at the expo with her husband George, stopped to have her blood pressure taken by Susan Nieves at Oracle Home Health.
Casper said she had been to a previous expo and decided to return because she found it helpful.
Maribel Lorenzo, branch manaager of CenterState Bank’s Plant City location, said the expo was well worth her time. She said the bank has been at the expo for the last couple of years.
This year, she distributed goodies such as pens from the bank’s booth.
“It’s a good opportunity to see a lot of people,” Lorenzo said.
