Band Perry, Rascal Flatts among Strawberry Festival acts

PLANT CITY — Country music acts such as The Band Perry, Rascal Flatts and Little Big Town, the rock group Styx and legendary R&B group Boyz II Men will be among the featured acts at the 2014 Florida Strawberry Festival.

Other well-known entertainers will include singer Kellie Pickler and Christian group Third Day.

The festival booked acts beyond the country genre as it continued to strive for diversity on its main stage, general manager Paul Davis said.

“This is one of the best lineups we’ve had in years,” he said. “They are very talented, and we have something that should appeal to everyone.”

Festival entertainment chairman Joe Newsome said, “We have worked hard to have a variety of genres that remain true to our roots yet satisfy all our concertgoers.”

Many of the entertainers, including the Oak Ridge Boys, Josh Turner and Brenda Lee have been at the festival before, while others are newcomers to the Wish Farms Soundstage.

Newsome said the festival has long sought an encore performance by Rascal Flatts, which headlined the 2004 festival. Reserved ticket prices for the band’s March 2 performance are $55 – matching the festival’s high-water mark set last year by Blake Shelton.

Reserved tickets for the other entertainers ranges from $15 to $40, depending on artist and seat location.

In all the festival is paying a total of $1.7 million for two headline acts a day during the Feb. 27 through March 9 celebration of the area’s top crop.

Advance tickets for admission and reserved seats for headline entertainment shows will go on sale at 8 a.m. Dec. 5 and can be purchased online at www.flstrawberryfestival.com, at the festival main ticket office at 2209 W. Oak Ave. or by phone at (813) 754-1996.
