Two motorcyclists injured in Gulfport crash
Two speeding motorcyclists were hospitalized after their bikes slid and crashed into a curb on Gulfport Boulevard late Wednesday, police said. According to witnesses, the motorcycles were going east at a high rate of speed when they approached a curve at 59th Street, a news release from Gulfport police said. A Suzuki ridden by Marcello Ciampolillo, of Belleair, slid out of control, causing the Yamaha, ridden by David Heyveld, of Largo, to slide out of control, police said. Both riders struck the south curb of Gulfport Boulevard east of 59th Street, police said.Ciampolillo and Heyveld were taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with “significant” injuries, the news release said. The eastbound lanes of the 5900 block of Gulfport Boulevard were shut down for about two hours while officers investigated the scene.
