Two hospitalized after wrongway driver hits car on Howard Frankland
Two people are hospitalized after a wrongway driver struck another vehicle on the Howard Frankland Bridge on Sunday morning. About 6 a.m. Sunday, Jessica Lauren Hicks, 21, of Plant City, was northbound in a southbound lane of Interstate 275 north of 4th Street North, according to the highway patrol. Authorities do not know where she got on the highway. Jon Zimmerman, 29, Morton, Ill., was southbound in a 2013 Nissan when he saw Hicks driving toward him, and drove to the right to avoid her, the FHP said, but was unable to prevent a head-on collision. The cars collided, and Zimmerman's vehicle rotated clockwise, was knocked onto the shoulder and struck a chain link fence. Hicks' 2012 Scion wound up on the grass shoulder, FHP said. Both Hicks and Zimmerman are in serious condition at Bayfront Medical Center. Charges are pending, according to the highway patrol.
