Tampa Bay landmarks on display throughout Spring Breakers’
Get ready to see Tampa Bay on the big screen. “Spring Breakers,” parts of which were filmed in St. Pete Beach and other parts of Pinellas County and Sarasota in March, opens Friday. scoopsredington pier The film, which stars James Franco, Ashley Benson and former Disney stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, tells the story about a group of close friends who rob a restaurant and use the money to fund their spring break trip. In the film, you can spot the Sunshine Skyway bridge, the marquee for the now-closed Beach Theatre and the intersection of Blind Pass Road and Corey Avenue in St. Pete Beach. You’ll see a shot of the sign for Blind Pass Road above the girls as they ride scooters through the intersection.The parking lot of Captain's Food Store and Scoop's ice cream shop on Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach makes an appearance, and you can see the ice cream shop Twistee Treat (the place shaped like a giant soft serve cone) in the background. The breakers also hang out on the Redington Long Pier in Redington Shores, loiter after hours outside a Sun Country Cleaners in St. Petersburg, drive Lamborghinis on the Gandy Bridge and party on the pool deck at the Coral Reef Beach resort in St. Pete Beach, among other local spots.
