CLEARWATER – An ex-convict pleaded guilty this week to charges he struck a group of women with his car outside the Baby Dolls exotic dance club after his sister got into fight with another woman inside, according to authorities.
Robert Rios, 26, of 5672 33rd Ave. N. in St. Petersburg, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery, one count of felony battery, one count of marijuana possession and one count of driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to court records.
Because of his prior record, Rios was looking at a sentence of as much as 90 years for the aggravated battery counts alone, but he agreed to plead guilty Wednesday with the understanding his sentence would be only five years, said his defense attorney, Kelly McCabe.
On June 17, 2012, Rios’s sister, Medina, got into a fight with at least one stripper inside Baby Dolls, at 13383 U.S. 19, attorneys, with Medina Rios getting the worst of it, authorities said. The women were asked to leave, and as they did so, they were followed by others who had been inside.
During the ensuing melee, Robert Rios punched the woman who had beaten his sister, then got into his car before hitting three women with it, authorities said. None of the injuries was serious.
Rios had served time in prison following convictions for cocaine dealing and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
