St. Pete man charged in armed robbery of SunTrust bank

A St. Petersburg man was charged with armed robbery Monday in connection with a bank robbery last week.

Police say fingerprint analysis found on a note handed to a teller ties Phillip Michael Thompson, 56, to the robbery Tuesday of the SunTrust bank, 301 38th Ave. N.

Police say Thompson handed a note to a teller around noon, implying he had a weapon, before taking the money and leaving on foot.

Thompson, who was seen on surveillance video, has prior local arrests for dealing in stolen property and grand theft, police say.
