St. Pete man accused of trying to solicit teen for sex online
A 23-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested Monday night after police say he sent pictures of his genitals to what he believed was a 14-year-old girl before riding a bicycle to her house, where he planned to have sex with her. There was no 14-year-old girl, though. It was an undercover police officer. Gregory Petiote was arrested on charges of transmission of harmful material to a minor, traveling to meet a minor and prohibited computer use. He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail, with bail set at $20,000. Between March 28 and Monday, Petiote communicated with the undercover detective on his cell phone and a social media website, according to arrest reports. On Wednesday, he sent four pictures of himself naked, with one focused on his genitals. He was arrested Monday after showing up on a bicycle at a house undercover detectives use as part of their cyber-crime operation, St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz said.
