Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Tampa area
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Hillsborough and Manatee counties until 12:30 today as a strong line of storms moves into the Tampa Bay area from the Gulf of Mexico. A cold front is producing strong storms and heavy rain that will continue throughout the day, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said. Temperatures will approach 80 today with high humidity and gusty winds, with lows in the mid- to upper-60s. The winds will get stronger tonight as the storm system pushes onshore from the Gulf of Mexico tonight into Friday morning.The cold front could produce extremely heavy rain, with damaging winds and strong hail before it clears later Friday morning, leading to a partly cloudy weekend with highs near 80 and minimal rain chances.
