Seminole pedestrian killed after walking in front of pickup truck

A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night when he was struck by a pickup truck in Seminole. Pinellas County deputies say that around 10 p.m., Leo R. Carey Jr., 53, listed as a transient, walked into the path of a southbound Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Joshua Baron, 19, on Park Street just south of 54th Avenue North. Deputies say Carey, who was not at a crosswalk, walked out from behind a tree line on the west side of Park Street and into Baronís direct path. Carey was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Baron, of Seminole, and passenger Kory A. Brahm, 19, of St. Petersburg, were not injured, deputies say. Deputies say neither alcohol nor speed appear to be a factor, and no charges have been filed at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
