Seffner man flees Pinellas deputy, dies in motorcycle crash
Pinellas County deputies are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Palm Harbor on Sunday night after the driver sped away from a traffic stop and lost control. Deputies say Daniel Lavoy Akins, 27, of Seffner, was weaving through traffic in Oldsmar and heading westbound to U.S. 19 around 11 p.m. when he fled from a patrol deputy who attempted to stop him for speeding. The deputy did not pursue the motorcycle, according to deputies. Akins was last seen traveling northbound on Belcher Road from the area of Nebraska Avenue at a high rate of speed. After passing Alderman Road, deputies say Akins failed to negotiate a curve and crashed, and was ejected from the motorcycle.Akins was pronounced dead at Bayfront Medical Center. Deputies say the crash may be alcohol-related. An investigation is ongoing.
