Scooter driver in critical condition after Clearwater crash
The driver of a scooter suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday after crashing while attempting to pass a car that turned in front of him, Clearwater police said. Police said Gregory Allen Hitchcock, 26, was traveling westbound on Sunset Point Road about 1 a.m., when he attempted to pass a 1990 Plymouth as it began to turn left onto Stevenson Avenue. The scooter driver struck the car, driven by Tasha M. Kelly, 20, of Clearwater, and was ejected. He was flown to Bayfront Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. Police said alcohol use by Hitchcock was believed to be a factor in the crash.An investigation is ongoing.
