Safety Harbor to build 9/11 memorial from World Trade Center steel
Safety Harbor has received a piece of steel from the World Trade Center and will pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 with a public memorial to be built downtown. The city received the piece of steel from the We Will Never Forget 911 Foundation, Inc., and will build the memorial on Main Street between City Hall and Fire Station 52. Visitors will be able to physically touch the piece of steel, and the memorial will include a timeline of events from 9/11. City officials will be accepting donations for the memorial, expected to cost $25,000 and will be completed in September 2014.Donations can be made during the city's Third Friday celebration and future city events, and checks can be mailed to City of Safety Harbor, Attn: Fire Department, 750 Main Street, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.
