Man charged with murder in Largo apartment fight

A fight that turned fatal in Largo on Friday evening has led to a murder charge, Largo police said.

Police were called to an apartment at 4500 East Bay Drive after a report of a fight that left a man bleeding. On arrival, they found Marvin Neil Haddock, 26, was dead.

Police arrested 24-year-old Charles Michael Yantis on charges of aggravated battery and second-degree murder.

Witnesses told police that a verbal argument between the men started outside the apartment and Yantis asked Haddock to step inside.

The men continued arguing inside the apartment, challenging each other to a physical fight, before Yantis grabbed a knife and sliced Haddock’s arm, police said. Yantis was told to drop the knife by others inside the apartment, but instead proceeded to fatally stab Haddock, police said.

Police said the people involved in the fight were acquaintances and have been talking with detectives.

Yantis was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
