Police: Man died of beating before house set on fire
A man found dead after a house fire Wednesday died of a beating, and the man suspected setting his own house ablaze remains hospitalized under police guard. At 6:26 p.m. Wednesday, police and Fire Rescue units responded to a fire at 1030 13th St. N., where investigators found the body of a dead man inside, police said. The victim, Robert Scott Greaves, 34, 527 8th St. N., Apt. No. 2, St. Petersburg, died from blunt force trauma to his upper body before the fire, police said today. Police say Daniel Thomas Papaleo, 60, set fire to his house. Arson investigators found an accelerant at the scene of the fire.The investigation also revealed that Papaleo invited Greaves to his home prior to the fire, and Greaves and a daughter of Papaleo had a child together, police said. Papaleo is under arrest for arson and remains hospitalized due to injuries from the fire, police said. He is under police guard. Additional charges against Papaleo will depend on the outcome of the criminal investigation, which continues, police said.
