Pinellas lands BP tourism grant for culinary events

CLEARWATER — Visit St. Pete/Clearwater has received $500,000 from BP’s Gulf Seafood and Tourism Promotional Fund to support two culinary events.

This is the second year in a row Pinellas County’s destination marketing organization received a grant from the BP fund.

The organization proposed several programs for grant support in 2014, including the second year of funding for Enjoy Arts & Tastes, a three-day culinary event featuring celebrity-chefs, as well as dedicated funds for Clearwater Beach Uncorked, an annual food and wine festival.

Only 60 of the 450 organizations that applied for funding in 2013 received grants, which ranged from $25,000 to $500,000.

Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and the state’s tourism board, Visit Florida, were the only destination marketing organizations to get the maximum grant.

The grant will help further establish Pinellas County as a culinary destination, said Visit St. Pete/Clearwater’s executive director, DT Minich.
