A North Port man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car Saturday night in St. Pete Beach.

At about 9:32 p.m., Eric Jack Hampton, 58, was crossing Gulf Boulevard at 46th Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 69-year-old Susan W. Carlson, of St. Pete Beach, deputies said.

Witnesses told deputies that Hampton made it to the median and that as he ran across Gulf Boulevard he was struck by the car, according to a news release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Hampton was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, deputies said.
