Motorcyclist hurt in St. Pete Beach collision

A motorcyclist received life-threatening injuries in a crash Sunday afternoon in St. Pete Beach, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to deputies, about 5:49 p.m., a 2014 Chevy Cruz driven by Lina De Capvalho, 41, of Ontario, Canada, was stopped in the left turn lane of eastbound 75th Avenue in the intersection of Blind Pass Road, waiting for traffic to clear. Meanwhile, a 2008 Harley Davidson Motorcycle driven by James Garbee, 54, of Kenneth City, was westbound on 75th Avenue.

As the motorcycle entered the intersection, the Chevy made a left turn as the traffic light was turning yellow, and the vehicles collided, deputies said.

Garbee was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. De Capvalho and her passenger, Gianluca De Capvalho, 13, weren’t hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
