Largo woman charged with throwing acid on man’s face
LARGO - A Largo woman has been arrested after police say she poured a bottle of muriatic acid onto a person's face. Largo police said surveillance video shows Melissa Diane Egbert, 39, throw acid onto the victim's face at his home in the 500 block of Beverly Avenue Northwest at 2:33 a.m. Egbert then jumped into a car and drove off, police said. Egbert and the victim had been involved in a romantic relationship for more than a year, police said.Egbert was charged Sunday with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a felony, and is being held without bail. It's unclear whether she had retained an attorney. The victim's condition was not released. Muriatic acid, also known as hydrochloric acid, is used for cleaning concrete, tile and other hard surfaces. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
