TREASURE ISLAND — A variety of kites soared above the shoreline Saturday as a two-day kite festival and competition kicked off on the sands behind the Thunderbird Beach Resort.
The Fall Fly at TI! is geared toward those new to competitive kite-flying and includes one-on-one instruction with experienced fliers. The free event also includes lessons on flying fighter kites, illuminated kites after dark, kids’ activities, food vendors, raffles and plenty of opportunity to fly any type of kite.
The kite-flying competition runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds benefit the the Secrets of the Sea Marine Exploration Center and Aquarium. The city is offering $5 all-day parking at the Treasure Island Community Center entrance at 104th and Gulf Blvd.
