FHP: Hit-and-run driver flees from Palm Harbor crash

The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in finding the driver who ran from a Palm Harbor hit-and-run Monday night that left his passenger in serious condition.

The driver of the car has yet to be identified, but the FHP says the vehicle — a 1999 Chrysler 300 — is registered to Christopher Frank Dohmen, 24.

The driver was speeding just after 8:30 p.m. when he lost control southbound on Belcher Road, troopers say.

According to troopers, the driver lost control at the intersection of Alderman Road and sideswiped a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Nicolas Diamantidis, 62, of Merrick, N.Y., before hitting a curb, overturning, and striking a power pole.

The impact caused 25-year-old Ashley Love, of Largo, who was not wearing a seat belt, to be thrown from the car as it continued to overturn for another 1,700 feet, troopers say. She is hospitalized in serious condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Diamantidis and two passengers — 62-year-old Maria Eskanazy of Tarpon Springs and 57-year-old Anna L. Diamantidis Merrick, N.Y. — were all transported to Florida Hospital North with minor injuries, troopers say.

The crash closed the roadway until just after 5 a.m., troopers say.

The driver of the Chrysler ran from the scene and remains at large, and it is unknown whether he suffered any injuries, troopers say.

Anyone with information about Dohmen or the crash is asked to contact the FHP at (813) 631-4020.
