Restoration is almost complete on one of the city’s signature murals.
Painted in the 1940s, “The Pier” by George Snow Hill depicts residents on the earlier Million Dollar Pier. It is located halfway up the main staircase at City Hall. The four-day restoration job was done by Rustin Levenson Arts Conservation Associates.
“The sky used to be gray, now it’s blue; the pelican has dimensions to its feathers,” said Elizabeth Brincklow, with the city of St. Petersburg.
“It’s been up for 50, 60 years when there was cigarette smoking; it had this sepia tone to it. Now, it’s bright, crisp and the colors are really coming out.”
