A former Pinellas Park High School teacher was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a student.
Jonathan Dunn, 28, was arrested in March after Pinellas Park police said they investigated a sexual relationship he had with a student, then 16 years old, in 2011.
In addition to prison time, Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Newton sentenced Dunn to two years of sex offender probation, Pinellas Park police said. Dunn is now classified as a sex offender, police said.
Police said the relationship took place during a three-week time period in December 2011 and included sexual activity on and off campus. The school’s resource officer got a tip about the relationship, and an investigation began. Dunn, who taught math and criminal justice, resigned shortly after.
Before working at Pinellas Park, Dunn taught at Wharton High in Hillsborough County in 2008-09.
The student in the case is now 18 years old.
