Clearwater police searching for soccer players who attacked ref
Clearwater police are looking for a couple of soccer players who they say attacked a referee during a match Sunday morning. The club game was at Joe DiMaggio Field, 610 Old Coachman Road, police said. During the game two adult players became angry with the referee over a call and attacked him, police said. The men, initially identified as Ramone Mitchell and Omar Anderson, punched the referee in the back of his head, and he fell to the ground, severely injuring his shoulder, according to police. He was taken to a hospital. Then the attackers took off in a white Mercedes, police said.Police later said the names provided were incorrect. Sunday night, they identified the suspects as Timothy Kerr, 31, and Dale Lewis, 34. The pair had given the league false identification when they registered to play, police said. Officers later pulled over a white Mercedes, but the names on the identification cards did not match the names given to police at the field and the men in the car were allowed to go on their way. Police on Sunday night continued to try to relocate the suspects.
