Chestnut downs 179 wings to hold onto Hooters wing-eating title
Jaws wins again. Joey "Jaws" Chestnut topped himself again by devouring even more wings than he did last year to take first place in Thursday night's Hooters World Wing Eating Championship. Chestnut turned away 15 challengers by downing 179 wings within 10 minutes at Hooters' original location, 2800 Gulf To Bay Blvd. in Clearwater. Last year, Chestnut finished off 144 wings. The win comes just three weeks after Chestnut, the biggest name in speed eating since 2007, won the annual Nathan's Fourth of July hot dog eating contest. The Hooters championship begins a weekend-long celebration leading up to National Chicken Wing Day on Monday.
