Bicyclist hit in St. Petersburg dies
A 48-year-old cyclist died Saturday after being hit by a car in St. Petersburg last week. Roger Soloman, whom police say had no permanent address, was hit by a car on Thursday as he and Phillip Billups were riding their bicycles along Gandy Boulevard, near Interstate 275. The two men had started crossing Gandy under the interstate overpass about 10:45 a.m. when Soloman's bike was hit by a Chevrolet van driven by Allen Foran, 39, of Tierra Verde, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Foran tried to avoid the collision, and his van hit a Toyota that skidded into Billups, police said.Billups, of Largo, was treated at the scene, and Soloman was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in serious condition. He died there Saturday morning.
