A Pasco County man died and his wife and 3-year-old granddaughter were injured Tuesday in a crash caused by a dump truck that pulled in front of their car on southbound Interstate 75, troopers said.
John Conrad Porter, 61, of Wesley Chapel, was killed in the crash. His wife, Mary Ann Porter, 58, and granddaughter Natalia Gracie Muncie were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Mary Ann Porter was in critical condition. The condition of the child, who was into a child safety seat, was not available.
Cristobal L. Cepero, 49, of Tampa, was driving a 1994 Mack truck, operated by Cristobal Trucking, with a load of dirt in a construction zone, troopers said.
He drove the truck from the paved shoulder to enter I-75, south of State Road 56, about 10:42 a.m. and pulled into the path of Porter's southbound 2012 Hyundai, troopers said.
The Hyundai then hit the back of the dump truck, troopers said.
Cepero was not hurt, troopers said.
Charges are pending.
The crash shut down southbound I-75 traffic near State Road 56 for about two hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
