A hole nearly 4 feet deep opened up near a Town 'N County home Sunday, according to Hillsborough County officials. The hole - roughly 4 feet in diameter and 3 to 4 feet deep - opened in the front yard of the home located at 4418 W. Jean Street, according Hillsborough County spokesman Willie Puz. The fissure, which Puz was careful not to call a sinkhole until geological testing could be performed, was partially under a carport and slightly under a concrete slab of the home's front porch, he said. "Code Enforcement did respond and they suggested that the family not stay there until there was some geological testing," Puz said.
The owner has contacted an engineering company to assess the hole and determine if it is due to sinkhole activity. Because there was no "threat to property or life," it is up to the property owner to work with their insurance company to have the hole investigated, Puz said.
