SPCA PetWalk benefit is Lucy’s legacy
NEW PORT RICHEY - Dogs of every size and shape were on parade Saturday as pet owners walked their pooches around Orange Lake during the first Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Suncoast PetWalk in downtown New Port Richey. The benefit was held in honor of Lucy, a grief therapy dog at Dobies Funeral Home who died last fall. Proceeds will help SPCA Suncoast care for the more than 1,000 homeless pets the shelter takes in each year. The fun shifted to Sims Park for pet contests.Kuhmo, an Alaskan malamute with the Stubbendick family, gulped down peanut butter the fastest to win a trophy. Among other prizes, Lexi was the best kisser among pooches. The smallest lap dog prize went to diminutive Roxanne. Oliver won the talent contest. Patches had the best costume, which included a basket of dog goodies.
