WESLEY CHAPEL — Seaway Plastics Engineering took home “Manufacturer of the Year” honors at the Pasco Economic Development Council banquet Tuesday at Saddlebrook Resort.
The Port Richey plastics injection molding firm was recognized for its excellent employee benefits and rapid growth. Over the last year, Seaway Plastics has made $2 million in capital investment which included purchasing a 9,000-square-foot building and state-of-the-art machinery.
Rochester Electro-Medical, based in Lutz, won the award for small manufacturer of the year. The company manufactures and distributes a wide array of neurological products for healthcare professionals. The company hired 12 new employees this year and expanded its sales in Europe and South America.
DataMentors, a database marketing firm in Wesley Chapel, won the Technology Award. Gator Cleaning Solutions and A & K Energy Conservation were named Service and Distribution Industry of the Year.
Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative received the “Special Recognition Award.” The Dade City-based electric co-op has hired 97 new employees in the last 18 months and invested over $23 million in new capital. The nonprofit company has also given back to the community, investing heavily in a new community center in Lacoochee and giving away nearly $1 million in college scholarships.
Pasco-Hernando State College won the “Special Contribution” Award for the opening of its new Porter Campus in Wiregrass Ranch. The college also expanded its educational offerings by adding two new four-year degree programs in business and nursing.
