PORT RICHEY - A 42-year-old Port Richey man is charged with shooting his neighbor twice during dispute, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office reported. Samuel Douglas Line of 7116 James St. was charged with attempted murder and booked into the Land O' Lakes Jail after his arrest Sunday afternoon, according to an arrest report. He remained in jail Monday where he was being held without bail. Line reportedly went to a neighbor's house about 1 a.m. Sunday and, standing outside, tried to lure the neighbor into a verbal argument, the report said. The neighbor, Wayne P. McDermott, 48, first responded through a window, questioning what Line was doing, then went to the front door of his home, the report said. As McDermott stood on his front deck, Line, standing at the roadway, pulled a .357 revolver from his waistband and shot McDermott twice, the report said.McDermott was taken to Bayonet Point Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover from his wounds, Pasco sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin said. Another neighbor who witnessed the shooting told investigators he had spoken with Line just minutes earlier and Line, brandishing a revolver, had said, "I'm going to make things right," referring to an earlier altercation, the report said. The report did not say what the subject of the disagreement was.
