Port Richey man charged in burglaries
A Port Richey man was arrested early Sunday in connection with 20 burglaries, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. The arrest came two days after the man eluded a deputy in the Regency Park neighborhood, an arrest report said. At 12:20 a.m. Friday, a deputy hid near a Lake Chrise home when he saw Shawn William Culver, 42, of 7814 Chalafonte Drive, cross the street, walk through the front yard of a home and into the side yard, an arrest report said. Culver was attempting to break into the house when he was confronted, deputies said. He was wearing camouflage pants and a gray shirt, the same outfit of a man caught on surveillance camera during a previous break-in attempt, deputies said.Culver then ran from the deputy, darting behind and between several homes, according to the arrest report. Culver was arrested at his home, less than a half-mile away. Deputies said Culver is responsible for at least 20 similar burglaries in the area. Culver remains in the Land O' Lakes Jail on charges of loitering or prowling, obstruction of an officer without violence, attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling and four burglaries of an occupied dwelling. Bail has been set at $100,300.
