Pasco woman kills herself after firing shots at deputies
A Dade City woman is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after deputies arrived at her home to serve a warrant Wednesday morning, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived at Laura Bennet Eckert’s home, 38745 Burger Lane, to serve a warrant about 10:19 a.m. Eckert would not come outside the home to speak to deputies, and instead would only communicate through an open window, deputies said. At some point, Eckert fired shots through the window. None of the deputies were injured. The woman barricaded herself inside a room in the house and shot herself in the chest, according to deputies.She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Frederick Eckert, was inside the home the couple bought in 1993 at the time of the shooting and is talking to investigators, according to the sheriff’s office. The warrant was for failure to appear in court for an obstruction charge.
