Pasco man with cache of government IDs, gear gets year in jail
The case of the man who possessed badges and uniforms of organizations ranging from the Boy Scouts to the CIA is nearing its conclusion in Pasco County. Roy Maximilliano Antigua, 53, recently entered a plea of no contest to two counts of impersonating an officer. He was sentenced to a year in county jail by Judge Michael F. Andrews on Dec. 20 and must pay court costs, which total $1,445. He is in the Land O' Lakes jail awaiting a Jan. 16 pretrial hearing for driving with a suspended license as well as a Jan. 28 arraignment on the remaining count of falsely impersonating an officer. He faces a minimum of probation and a maximum of five years in prison for that charge, according to Mike Halkitis, the division director for the state attorney's office. "He pretty much pled to everything but this one," Halkitis said.Antigua's fantasy life was interrupted Aug. 1 when he was arrested for driving his black, 2004 Cadillac Escalade — fitted with blue flashing lights and a U.S. Coast Guard window sticker and front plate — with a suspended license. That arrest violated a previous probation. During the interview process, detectives noticed the military ID he presented appeared doctored. That led to a search of his home at 5642 La Salle Court in New Port Richey, which turned up uniforms from the Coast Guard, Air Force, Boys Scouts and NASA. There also were CIA and other law enforcement credentials in addition to medical badges. Authorities said Antigua was an auxiliary, or volunteer, for the Coast Guard and not a full-fledged member. He worked locally at a New Port Richey medical facility. Antigua reportedly told detectives he has low self-esteem and that this was a form of self-medication to improve his confidence. Once matters in Pasco County conclude, Antigua will face a violation of probation in Miami for a 2011 third-degree grand theft. He was given three years probation, which was to end May 5, 2015.
