Pasco carnival worker charged with child abuse
A Dade City carnival worker was arrested and charged with child abuse early Friday after attempting to drag a 16-year-old girl back to his car, according to the Pasco Sheriff's Office. About 1:30 a.m. Friday, the car belonging to Gregory David Haney, 58, was disabled near 25241 State Road 52 in Land O' Lakes. The girl, originally from Niagara Falls and working with Haney for the summer in a carnival, got out of the car following an argument. She attempted to flag down another car when Haney, of 10202 U.S. 301, pulled the girl by her arm, causing her to fall to the pavement. He then attempted to drag her back to the car, the arrest report said. The incident caused cuts on the teen's right hip, left elbow, and her chest, deputies said. The girl met Haney about four weeks ago when the carnival traveled through Niagara Falls. She received written permission from her mother to travel with the carnival to earn money during the summer, according to deputies. The girl was placed in Haney's care during her time away from Niagara Falls, the arrest report said.
