New Port Richey couple donates more than 2 tons to Goodwill
NEW PORT RICHEY - Elijah and Valerie Bartz of New Port Richey set another record this week for bulk donations to Goodwill Industries Suncoast, said Chris Ward, marketing and media relations manager for the nonprofit group. "We just weighed the donations and they came to 4,368 pounds," Ward said. "So he upped his total by more than 2 tons." This is the fourth year the couple have donated truckloads of items to Goodwill. In 2009 and 2010, they collected donations to enter and win Goodwill's Next Big Donation contest, which earned them tickets to Tampa's Next Big Thing concert. The Bartzes have continued to collect donations, even though Goodwill no longer holds the contest. The couple collected more than 10,000 pounds of donations for Goodwill during the past three years. The family has been busy for months collecting items, Ward said. The Bartzes even rented a storage unit to hold the overflow from their garage. The items filled a Goodwill truck that picked up the donations on Tuesday. "I don't make that much money to really do contributions," Elijah Bartz has said about monetary gifts. "This is how my wife and I give back a little bit."
