A 51-year-old motorcyclist died this morning when he failed to stop for a red light and struck the car in front of him.
About 11:30 a.m., Kelly Watts of the Bronx, N.Y, was westbound in a 2011 Ford Taurus on State Road 52 east of Paradise Point Way in New Port Richey, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Traveling behind him on a 2002 Honda motorcycle was Kevin Dean Slaunwhite of Land O’ Lakes.
Watts stopped for a red light at the intersection, but Slaunwhite did not stop in time, struck the rear of the Taurus and was thrown onto the center median, FHP said. He died at the scene.
Neither Watts, 49, nor his passenger, Sidney Curry, 29, of Middletown, N.Y, were injured, the report said.
