SAN ANTONIO - St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in San Antonio held a barn dance in the Parish Center on Saturday evening. “It was a ‘fun raiser’ as opposed to a fundraiser,” said Mary MacDonald, one of the organizers from the Catholic Women’s Club. “We wanted to bring together the school, the elderly and the home-schoolers, and we wanted a social event that was children-friendly and family friendly.” Attendees were asked to dress in country-western apparel, said Father Edwin Palka, the parish pastor, who wore his broad-brimmed padre hat and a long black cassock. After feasting on a meal of barbecued chicken and pork, caller Bob Ellis provided a lesson in square dancing.“Everything went well,” MacDonald said. She added that the barn dance committee is hoping to have another barn dance next year and make it an annual event.
