Girls tennis: Land O' Lakes declared 2A-6 runner-up
LAND O' LAKES - The Land O' Lakes girls tennis team finished second in the Class 2A-District 6 without having to play for it Friday. Land O' Lakes coach Samantha Taylor said that a Florida High School Athletic Association official checked the scoring of the tournament and declared the Gators the runners-up. Land O' Lakes will travel to 2A-5 winner Crystal River on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The winner will face the Pasco-Brooksville Nature Coast winner on Thursday for sa shot ast asdvancing to the state tournament. Thursday, there was controversy over the scoring. Pasco won the district title with 15 points. The official count indicated that Zephyrhills and Land O' Lakes both had 10 points. The recount and official count shows the Gators as runners-up with 10 and Zephyrhills with 9.The two teams were scheduled to have a dual match playoff Friday before the official gave the ruling. The playoff was cancelled. Zephyrhills will have a singles and doubles team at state as Sarah Vande Berg won her second-straight district title at No. 1 singles and teamed with Sydney Owens to win No. 1 doubles title.
