Deputies: Mother, son beat, robbed man they met on dating website
A mother and son face attempted homicide and grand theft charges in Pasco after a man they met through an online dating website was severely beaten and robbed on Friday. Bobbie Jo Curtis, 40, and Bryan Curtis, 16, are charged with unlawful imprisonment, aggravated battery, attempted homicide and grand theft auto, said Doug Tobin, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Deputies are searching for a woman who they say is also involved. Bobbie Jo Curtis met the 44-year-old victim through singlesnet.com, an online dating site. The victim invited Curtis and her son to live with him at his home, in the 13000 block of Midvale Avenue in New Port Richey, Tobin said. The two had lived at the home for about a week when they tied him up and beat him, Tobin said. With the help of another woman, Curtis and her son took items from the home, including guns, Tobin said. The victim's 69-year-old neighbor saw the suspects putting items into the victim's van and questioned them as to the wellbeing of his neighbor, Tobin said When the neighbor tried to go into the victim's home, he was hit on the head with a baseball bat, Tobin said. Sheriff Chris Nocco said a second neighbor saw the first collapse in the street and called 911. The first neighbor has been hospitalized and is in stable condition. When deputies arrived around 6:30 p.m., they found the 44-year-old man unconscious with serious head injuries. He was hospitalized and was in critical condition, Tobin said. A detective received a tip that the van was at the Riverside Inn in New Port Richey, Tobin said. Deputies did not find the van, but they found Curtis and her son, Tobin said. They were taken into custody. Deputies are searching for the third suspect and the white Ford Econoline van with the license plate 366TQH. The third suspect is known as "Nessa," is 5-foot-5, and has blonde hair and tattoos, Nocco said. Anyone who sees the van should not try to approach the suspect but call the sheriff's office at 727-844-7711.
