Dade City man accused of discharging explosives
A Sunday night explosion rattled the windows of a deputy's home, leading to the arrest of a Dade City man for discharging explosives. According to the Pasco Sheriff's Office, at about 8 p.m. Cpl. Gennis Folsom felt the ground shake as well as the windows rattle near his Dade City home at Ranch Road and Auton Road. An investigation led him to Luis Javier Godinez, 40352 Santa Gertrudis Drive in Dade City. Deputies said Godinez, 19, was inside Green Swap West, a wilderness preserve at 13347 Ranch Road, when he lit one "quarter stick." Folsom found Godinez to have a total of nine "quarter sticks", which must be obtained with a license. Godinez, who did not have the proper license, was held until a bomb squad detective could come to the scene and identify the explosives.Godinez was charged with discharging destructive devices and remains in the Land O' Lakes Jail with a $50,000 bond.
