DADE CITY — Students at Pasco-Hernando Community College took a trip back in time to the 1960s on Thursday with its Hippie Festival on the Dade City campus.
The festival featured a drum circle and tie-dye, a hippie fashion necessity, among other happenings.
The festival was part of Peace Week, with activities scheduled at all PHCC campuses. Other Peace Week events included yoga, a Peace on Earth Festival and Buddhist monks creating a sand mandala at the Brooksville campus. A mandala is a circular mural made of colored sand. Tibetans refer to the mandala as the “architecture of enlightenment” with meanings on many spiritual and artistic levels.
In addition, there were Peace Week lectures or group discussions on such topics as climate change, immigration, nonviolent sexuality and relationship problem solving.
