Class helps seniors hew wood carving skills

ELFERS - Seniors participated in a wood carvers class this week at the CARES Elfers Center. The class meets Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and costs $3 a session, a donation to the center.
Beginning carvers are given lessons on handling tools and wood and all class members assist each other as they progress. The CARES Elfers Center, 4136 Barker Drive in Elfers, reopened May 10, after an extensive renovation that preserved much of the character of the structure that first opened in 1914 as a school.
For 52 years, students attended classes in the landmark building before it evolved into a senior center and now a community center
The center offers a variety of classes and programs. For information on upcoming classes, call (727) 847-1290.
